How to care for and clean your jewellery?

The shine of gold has attracted many for centuries. This metal is associated with sun, warmth and beauty. Gold products complete and make any look elegant. In order for your favorite jewellery to remain in perfect condition as long as possible, the proper care is needed, so find out how to care for and clean your jewellery.
Gold may darken
Not everyone realizes that gold jewellery darkens, just like their silver counterparts. This is because gold is not used in its pure form, and the metal is very soft and brittle. It is due to various impurities that jewellery can change color over time.
Secrets of shine
Gold jewellery can remain beautiful and shiny for a long time, even without much cleaning. This can be achieved if one adheres to some recommendations:
- After each wear it is advised to remove the jewellery, wipe it with a soft cloth made of suede, microfiber or flannel.
- It is best to store jewellery in a jewellery box or a special bag so that dust does not settle on it and direct sunlight does not fall on it.
- Remember to remove jewellery when cleaning, exercising, swimming, showering or bathing.
- Make sure that the jewellery is not splashed with perfume or cosmetics.
- Try not to put a ring or chain in places where there are sudden changes in temperature, such as in a bathhouse or on a skating rink.
Diamond care and cleaning
Even the hardest and toughest gemstone can lose its luster over time. We will tell you how to care for diamond jewellery.

Like most other gemstones, you can care for and clean your jewellery at home. If you do not do this in a timely and regular manner, a whitish coating may appear on the stone, which can be completely removed only in a jewellery workshop by means of grinding.
Caring for diamond rings, earrings and other products involves simple procedures, but you still need to know a few important points.
Wear gloves when cleaning diamonds. The stone is extremely susceptible to fat, in particular, to that which covers the human skin. Therefore, be careful not to touch the diamond with your hands in both cleaning and everyday wear.
Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a piece of soft velvet to damp off dirt. The latter is also suitable for polishing and cleaning amber.
Cleaning diamond at home
The optimal diamond cleaner is a low alkaline soap solution. It should be warm. Place the diamond jewellery in water, rub with a cloth and leave in the solution for a few more minutes, then wipe dry. This will help to put in order not only the stone, but also the gold.
Do not clean and dry diamonds at high temperatures, otherwise they may fade. The temperature of the solution should be no higher than 30-40 degrees. Also, do not use a hair dryer to dry your jewellery and remember that diamonds do not react well to ultraviolet radiation – do not leave them in direct sunlight for a long time.
You can use pure medical alcohol or vodka, but always in a solution with ordinary warm water. After processing, the stone should be rubbed vigorously with velvet.
